Who is this bootcamp for?

This fully funded bootcamp is designed for adults aged 19+ who live in West Sussex and have some hands-on experience in the game development pipeline — whether through a university or college course, self-teaching, personal projects, or game jams. It’s ideal for aspiring technical artists, game artists, animators, or creative coders looking to break into the industry or upskill. We welcome graduates, career changers, and freelancers who:
  • West Sussex resident (proof of address required)
  • Aged 19 and above
  • Have the right to work in the UK 
  • Have experience with game development 
  • Background in game art, programming, animation or similar
  • Low-income backgrounds encouraged to apply

What can I expect?

Fast -track your future in Technical Art. Over 14 weeks, you’ll build the most in-demand technical and creative skills for today’s fast-moving video games industry.

The programme is structured around three immersive sprints, where you'll respond to real-world briefs and work alongside experienced technical artists. Each sprint reflects the kinds of challenges technical artists are trying to solve every day, helping you build relevant portfolio-ready projects that showcase your practical skills and creative thinking.

You’ll get instant feedback, collaborate with peers and professionals, and take part in tailored career coaching and soft skills training. By the end of the bootcamp, you’ll be ready to pursue work confidently and add value on any team, whether that’s in a studio or as a freelancer.

How much does it cost?

The programme is fully funded by the UK Government and West Sussex County Council for residents of West Sussex. It’s completely free if you're eligible and have been selected through the application process

How much time do I need to commit?

This is a fully funded opportunity, provided by the UK Government and West Sussex County Council. Spaces are limited, so it’s important that each place goes to someone who’s ready to make the most of it. If you’re not able to commit to this level of involvement, we kindly ask you not apply.

  • The bootcamp runs over 14 weeks, starting Friday, 5 September, with 60–70 hours of guided training in total plus a recommended 20-30 hours of self-guided learning.
  • Training sessions are remote and typically take place on three weekday evenings per week, between the hours of 5:30pm to 8:30pm (UK timezone)

Includes two full-day in-person events (Both 10:00am–4:00pm):
  • Welcome & Orientation (Week 1)
  • End-of-Programme Showcase (Final Week)

You’ll also have dedicated break weeks between each sprint for reflection, catch up, and to work on your portfolio projects.

Participants should: 
✔️ Attend a minimum of 70% of sessions
✔️ Catch up via session recordings for any sessions missed
✔️ Engage fully with the projects, mentoring, and feedback

Can beginners apply?

This bootcamp is not designed for complete beginners. Applicants should already have at least 1 year of hands-on experience with game development tools or workflows whether through study, self-teaching, personal projects, or game jams – having made significant contributions to at least three game projects.

You don’t need to be an expert, but you should be able to:
  • Can navigate popular game engines (preferably Unity or Unreal) 
  • Have experience creating assets in DDC 
  • Have basic scripting knowledge
  • Share examples of work (even if unfinished or personal)

Do I need a degree or formal qualifications?

A formal degree is not required, but it can be a helpful way for us to validate your experience. What matters most is that you have a foundational understanding of game dev pipeline and some experience in game art and programming.

We welcome experience from a variety of backgrounds, including:
  • University or college projects
  • Personal projects or portfolios
  • Game jams or community-led dev work
  • Online courses or informal training

As part of your application, we’ll ask for notes, portfolio examples, or links to help us understand your experience. If you don’t have a degree, that’s totally fine — just show us what you’ve worked on!

What do I need to take part in the bootcamp?

  • Commitment to attend all sessions and stay engaged throughout the course
  • Motivation to build a career in technical art and the creative industries
  • Access to a 3D creation tool for modelling, texturing, and basic rigging 
  • Access to a real-time game engine for asset integration and testing
  • A capable computer that can run 3D and game engine software smoothly
  • Stable internet connection for live sessions and downloading resources
  • Quiet workspace where you can focus and participate fully
  • Headphones and microphone for clear communication

  • OS: Windows 10/11 (recommended for Unreal Engine)

What is the application process?

Please note: This bootcamp is limited to just 15 places.
To apply, simply fill out our online application form by 10 August. This helps us evaluate your eligibility and readiness for the programme. The form will ask for:
  • Proof of West Sussex residency
  • Examples of your work (e.g. personal projects, game jams, or coursework)
  • A brief self-assessment of your skills and experience

After reviewing submissions, shortlisted applicants will be invited to a screening call with the Into Games team. This is a chance for us to learn more about your goals, interests, and fit for the programme.

Final selections are made together with a team of industry professionals, including experienced technical artists and recruiters ensuring a fair and industry-aligned process.

How will I be assessed during the bootcamp? 

There are no exams on this bootcamp — assessment is based entirely on your engagement, project work, and growth.

You’ll be assessed through:
  • Portfolio presentations — share your work and get feedback from trainers
  • Peer-to-peer feedback — reflect, learn, and grow with your cohort
  • Mentor evaluations — your progress is mapped against a technical art competency scorecard
  • Attendance and participation — showing up and engaging is key

This bootcamp is all about practical, real-world learning, so everything you create helps build a professional portfolio that demonstrate the industry's in-demand skills.

What will I achieve through this bootcamp?

By the end of the bootcamp programme, you’ll have:

  • Post programme career guidance with a guaranteed job interview or freelance/contract support

Will I get a job at the end of programme?

Hiring patterns that can be unpredictable in any industry, especially ones involving tech. That’s why this bootcamp focuses on giving you the skills, confidence, and connections to navigate the landscape and pursue different pathways. While we can’t guarantee a job offer, all learners who complete the bootcamp will receive career support and a guaranteed interview for a relevant opportunity. Depending on your goals, this could include:

  • Career coaching with Into Games Head of Training and Game Industry Recruiters
  • An interview for a real role
  • Guidance on freelance/self employed pathways 

Is there any support for disability or additional needs?

We’re committed to making this bootcamp as accessible and inclusive as possible.
During your application, you’ll have the option to declare any disabilities or access needs. This helps us prepare the right support in advance.

🔹 Physical disabilities:
All training sessions (except two in-person events) are delivered remotely and recorded, so you can access content flexibly. For our in-person Orientation and End of Programme Sessions, we’re : 
  • Working with the venue partner to choose accessible spaces wherever possible
  • Aim to offer hybrid delivery, broadcasting in-person sessions live for those who can’t attend physically
