THE SPRINT BRIEF 

develop a comprehensive narrative design document
All Sprints are centred around an industry relevant brief for you to develop hands on skills. In this Sprint, you'll learn develop game industry ready portfolio pieces that includes character bios, dialogue triggers, cinematic scenes, and location descriptions for a video game and techniques to create an immersive storytelling experience.

Who is this course for?

This course is for aspiring narrative designers with foundational understanding of game development, gained through higher education, game jams, or personal projects. It's ideal for those with a basic knowledge of storytelling and want to build more confidence. Scriptwriting experience is a bonus but not essential.

For Aspiring Narrative Designers

For those with a limited portfolio who want to gain confidence in narrative design and create professional-quality work and advance in the field.

Basic Understanding of Game Development & Storytelling 

Participants should be somewhat familiar with the basics of game creation and understand how storytelling adds depth to games.
   The Sprint Leader will demonstrate using Google Workspace,
with lessons focused on tool-agnostic skills applicable to various narrative design software.

We are a little bit different from other online courses so please make sure you are clear on what we offer and if you are at the right stage in your learning journey to take part. Get in touch if unsure.

No Specific Software Requirements

Due to the wide range of software and tools available for narrative design, the Sprint Leader will demonstrate using Google Workspace and focus on tool-agnostic lessons that can be applied across various platforms.

This course is not for complete beginners

You need to be age 18+. This course is not for complete beginners. This Sprint course is designed for graduates, juniors and freelancers with some experience. You should already have some experience in game development projects.

Showcase and game jam

At the end of each Sprint, participants are invited to showcase their work in our virtual exhibition and further hone their skills by participating in a game jam. Both activities are optional.

We are based in the United Kingdom

Our team and colleagues are all based in the United Kingdom, our schedule time zone and case studies will reflect this. However, we welcome participants from all over the world and try to present content that is universal.

Time commitments

This is a 3-week online course, with all live sessions taking place in the evenings from 6pm-8pm BST (UK local time). You can review the activity dates below. Participants can expect to invest about 10-15 hours per week on this course.

Kim MacAskill

Kim MacAskill is a seasoned Narrative Director with over 14 years of experience working on major titles like FABLE, League of Legends, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. She has also developed her own original IP with PlayStation, showcasing her ability to create compelling, immersive stories across different types of games.

With a proven track record of building rich narratives and memorable characters, Kim brings a wealth of expertise to this course. Her experience spans both creative storytelling and the technical demands of game development, making her an ideal guide for aspiring narrative designers. Students will benefit from her industry insights and hands-on approach to building professional narrative design portfolios.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I get a certificate?

We award certificates based on overall engagement, not just attendance. It’s not about perfection! For example, if you missed a few live sessions but submit to the showcase, it will help balance your engagement points. Similarly, good attendance without all submissions can still lead to certification.

Certificates are password-locked and emailed to participants who have reasonably engaged. As an absolute minimum, participants should at least 50% of sessions.

I can't make all the dates - is this still for me?

While we recommend that you try to attend as many of the live and group sessions as possible, we understand that might not be possible. All sessions are recorded for participants, and you have 24-7 access to content and support for the duration of the Sprint. 

Is financial Aid or assistance available?
